What Is Sand Effect?

The sand effect is a decorative painting technique that recreates the effect of sand on the wall using dark gradients. This technique can be done with any color.

Currently, it is a trend to paint three walls of a room with plain colors and a fourth, which will be the protagonist, with the sand effect technique. But how do we get this effect?

  1. Repair The Damage To The Wall

For the sand effect on the walls to be perfect, we must do it on a smooth surface. This means that we must cover the cracks that exist in the wall, as well as the chips. If the wall has gotelé, we must also remove it before creating the sand effect.

  1. Get The Necessary Materials

To create a sand effect on the walls, we will need three main elements:

  • Paint the desired color: It can be a plain color or metallic decorative paint for an even more striking effect.
  • Glass beads: A powder prepared to mix with paint to achieve the sand effect.
  • A paintbrush or roller: You can combine both and use the roller to paint large areas and the brush for small areas.
  1. Mix The Glass Beads With The Paint

Mixing is very simple. We just have to calculate the quantities well and mix a bottle of glass beads for every 2.5 liters of paint. We stir the mixture well so that the glass beads reach all the paint.

  1. Apply The Mixture On The Wall

Once the mixture is prepared, the next step is to apply the paint with crossed movements on the wall; we use the roller and the brush for this. It is recommended to open all windows well to create the best ventilation conditions. If the paint smells still bother you, it is highly recommended to use a mask.

  1. Let It Dry

Let the paint dry naturally. For this, it is also convenient to have everything open so that the air can hit the walls. It is very important not to touch the paint while it dries to not spoil the finish.
